Beach Crab Claw
When I was young, I loved exploring rock pools and one family holiday in Indonesia I was fortunate enough to be able to explore tropical marine life residing amongst the crevices of the shoreline. While doing so I stumbled on a bright red crab claw that had been washed up on the beach and couldn't resist picking it up for closer examination.
I started imagining many scenarios as to how it might have lost its claw and decided to take it with me. Coincidentally, there was a local man on the beach selling beach themed jewellery who asked me what I had found. He then suggested that he could turn it into a pendant for me to wear around my neck.
Using a combination of sand, a limpet shell and glue, the man carefully crafted a pendant that was both sturdy and beautiful. To hang it he masterfully created a small loop at the top of the claw through which a piece of string could easily be threaded. It felt like a representation of my understanding of nature. Every time I looked at it, I remembered the fun times exploring rock pools and the discovery that led to this unique piece of jewellery. After the holiday it sadly broke, but I have never forgotten the kind gesture made to me by this local man.
